 Low notes on alto sax

I'm a clarinetist. I own an alto sax which I recently played for the first time in years. I have trouble playing the low notes (C and below) without overblowing and playing the notes an octave too high. Do other people have this problem? Do I have faulty technique, or a leaky horn?
