Hi!
Need to invest in a tenor sax that plays well but am on a budget and can't afford a $6000 horn. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Katie :-)

If $6000 is too much, what is your upper limit?

Any brand-new student tenor saxophone from your local instrument store will be a fine horn to play. They probably sell used ones for less, too.

Vito ("made in Japan") Tenor.
It's a stencilled Yamaha YTS-23, one of the best budget instruments you can have.

I got a decent Vito tenor for $400 on Cr@igslist. It was great because since it was local I could try it (unlike many online purchases). It also came with 3 mouthpieces - the stock one is crap, but the others each retail for over $200!
This was a good HS jazz player's sax that his mom decided to sell after he left home - perfect for my occasional stage band/pit playing. If you're looking for a decent horn as a secondary instrument, used ones are out there for way less.
