Greetings fellow bassoonists
I just started bassoon, and I'm having a hard time making the lower notes make a sound, especially Bb in the lower register. I can make it sound, but after some time it make like a weird ship sound thats like malfunctioning or something. I use a lark bassoon (if that helps) and I played sax for 5 years. Can someone help me?
And does the reed factor in my problem?
Also does anyone know a good book for beginners? Like etudes and stuff. Just to help me with bassoon. Thanks
Kamiko

The reed is not only a factor, it's probably the single most important part of the bassoon.
Double reeds (like bassoon and oboe) are far more complex than sax reeds in making, adjusting and playing.
I would strongly recommend that as a begginer on the bassoon you take lessons from an experienced player, certainly for the first few months, in order to establish both good playing habits and an understanding of how the reed interacts with the player and the instrument.
It's infinitely easier to learn good habits than to unlearn bad ones.
