Third Wheel announces open audition for the position of Bassoonist
Third Wheel, the Los Angeles-based woodwind ensemble that turns the classical world upside down, seeks a Bassoonist. Third Wheel won the Beverly Hills auditions in 2008 and was a 2010 recipient of the New York Women Composers Seed Money Grant. Performance opportunities include recitals, corporate/private event engagements, and educational outreach. In 2011, Third Wheel will continue the success of Wine & Wheels (casual new music concerts featuring local composers) and will launch a subscription concert series.
Applicants should be well-established bassoonists with a passion for a wide variety of musical genres. Experience in chamber music as well as solo performance is recommended. Applicants should be comfortable with performing not only classical music but also new music, folk, rock and jazz. Applicants should also be comfortable speaking to audiences and delivering verbal program notes.
Please submit a letter of intent, resume of musical experience and a headshot, along with a sample of your musical performance (solo or chamber please; not orchestral) via either youtube link or mp3 file. (Video is preferred.) Well-qualified applicants will be invited to a live audition and interview, to be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Mt. San Antonio College. Auditions will consist of a solo performance piece of your choice, sight-reading, and prepared performance of chamber music excerpts to be sent upon audition invitation.
Application files must be sent by email to info@thirdwheeltrio and must be received by 5 p.m. (PST) on Friday, April 15, 2011.
