Is Selmer Signet a good brand for bassoon? I have experience in clarinet brands, so Selmer sounds okay to me.

The Selmer bassoons are generally not very well regarded.
If you can afford it, consider a Fox Renard bassoon as a student instrument. Then, when you're ready to put a second mortgage on your house, look into a pro instrument!
