If one pushes down the reed all the way down (so that the bottom of the metal staple touches the metal well insert), the metal to metal contact between reed and the oboe would be even more direct and better than that from the gadget they are selling. The contact the metal gadget with the reed is made at the wound thread part. The thread, either it is cotton, silk, or nylon, is not a very good transmitter of sound. Metal to metal is much better sound transmitting contact.

I tried the metal to metal contact. And I did not find perceiveable difference. Perhaps I am not sensitive enough. Then, the effects must be very small. If so, should I care??
