I use clear nail polish all the time as a temporary fix for flute adjustment screws since they often unscrew themselves quickly in old student flutes that don't see a technician in their lives. Simply brushing nail polish over the head locks a screw and it's hold is so weak that you can probably turn the screw with a finger nail and break the seal. It holds for a good period of time.

I've even covered keys and lip plates with nail polish to cover up abrasive surfaces (and just out of curiosity). Pretty easy clean up just breaking it off with your hands.

Perhaps using nail polish in the thread itself would be a concern or getting it on wood?
