To secure an adjustment screw, first remove it and place a piece of nylon thread in the hole. Then replace the screw and make a good adjustment.

As time goes by and cork slivers wears thinner, the screw will remain adjustable and hold its place due to the nylon thread.

Normally screws work by friction caused by considerable tension (torque)
forcing the screw thread against the threading of the hole once stressed by considerable pressure.

Oboes do much better with much less torque and the screw thread tension induced by reed thread filling the void between screw and the 'hole' in the mechanism.

Also, this works very well to secure chronically loose eye glass screws...

Please.... no more nail polish!!!
