perhaps this is worth a try first?
... i find a magnifying glass under strong light very helpful to discover things about my oboe, for example, you'd be amazed how many little threads and skin particulates one can find under a Mag glass that somehow escape notice otherwise
... my guess is that inspecting with Mag glass would help you see if there's any surface varnish which may be holding the screws tight, it may be as simple a product as ordinary and economical nail polish, which as you know dissolves easily with nail polish remover
If you can see 'something' coating the surface of the screws and suspect it could be NP then ... *thoroughly moisten* cotton tip with NPR, and then twirl several times firmly -- in one direction only -- between finger-tips before using -- this little trick reduces the number of cotton fibres that'll shed and get caught on rough spots -- and take up some more NPR again in the prepared cotton each time for direct application to screw heads, wait a couple of moments and apply screwdriver before NPR dries up
WARNING *DO NOT APPLY* DIRECT HEAT IF USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER !!!
