Great idea!
Wow, you’re right! It was last September. September 16, 2006 to be exact.
Well, let’s see…back then I had just been playing for 2-1/2 months and was on up to page 19. I am now just completing page 40 at 12 months. Yep, this has taken me a bit longer than anticipated but I’m moving right along trying to learn these as best as I can. Before I start those 16th notes on page 41-46 and rushing to finish Gekeler I and moving on to Gekeler II, I’m really working on trying to make some of those melodies sound “pretty and professional” and do a bit of improv to make them sound my own way. I am really digging La Tarentelle on Page 40 right now. Pretty easy and sounds fairly sophisticated for a “first” book. Gekeler I is a great book as it really exposes you to some complicated-sounding material. Practice makes perfect.
Did you have a hard time with “Melody” on page 33? I’m still attempting that killer second to the last bar! I found page 25 to be more difficult than any of the others pages so far (Ab major stuff). Page 21 is a blast (I think you’ll agree) as is Page 37.
Are you still in Gekeler II?
I imagine it will take me a few months to finish the last few pages of Gekeler I from the looks of things… How did you do on these in comparison to the other pages.
