Hi Andrew, how exciting to get to pick all new instruments (sorry about the fire though!) I too am a big fan of Loree. Just for the record, I have been playing about 30 years and am a semi-pro (I guess, people pay me, but not enough to live on!)
I agree about the oboe/eh first choices. And I LOVE to play d'amore, my teacher in grad school had one I played in a quartet. Have you considered a double reed ensemble in your area? That would be the best use of a d'amore (IMHO) since your orchestral playing will be limited. I have played with 2 ob, eh, and bassoon, or ob, d'am, eh and bassoon; and the d'amore adds such a beautiful color to the ensemble - it is really wonderful to play! The sound is so much easier than in WW5, just because the balances work out better with the similar instruments (not that WW5 isn't great too). Listen to Wizards! or other double reed ensembles if you aren't familiar with this medium.
Good luck!
