Perhaps there's a weakness or a crack as mentioned previously, or perhaps the reed was scraped a funny way. Often we don't see the thickness of the piece of cane, so even though from the outside it looks even, it's really not because of a faulty gouge. I wouldn't worry about it. If it plays, it plays.
