 reeds that rattle

I just bought two of the best hand made reeds I can find. both have the high C at first and then rattle when air pressure is increased. How do I get rid of the rattle and replace it with the lower C? Both reeds are reasonably stable as is but I assume (?) that if I can replace the rattle with the lower C, they will be even more stable.

When the reed rattles, or "cackles," the reed is often too open, and possibly too resistant.

Squeeze the reed more closed on the back and/or slip the blades more closed. That should eliminate the rattle and replace with the single sub-tone.
