 Retrofitting a left C#

By serendipity, I came across the instrument repair professional Robert Stempfle based in Switzerland.

He has designed a mechanism for retrofitting a left C# key in oboe without such key, which he called F-Cis mechanism. It involves removing the left F key, and installing the new mechanism (a rocker mechanism, with F key to the right and C# to the left). This solution was praised by Heinz Holliger:-

I found an example of such mechanism from FB and attached it here.

I reached out to Robert, but unfortunately he said he no longer rebuild oboe. He referred me to another oboe repair professional in Germany.

Has anyone done such a retrofit work with Robert Stempfle?

That's doable - it's a case of making and fitting special pillars to mount the combined LH F/C# key to, then adding the link to the C# touchpiece. And it should fit in the case as it's all above the existing feather key barrel instead of next to it.

It does however place the LH C# touch over to the left (as you're playing), but that's where it is on saxes and clarinets anyway and also on older oboes like Leon Goossens' 1907 Loree.
