Hi, new to oboes. I have a friend who has a V. Kohlert & Sons grenadilla wood oboe, and we cannot find any info on it. It's marked "Graslitz, Czecho-Slovakia, serial #255,304". I can only find limited info on the company (production and company location interrupted by WW2, company moved around, almost all records destroyed, possibly ended all instrument production pre-1961). It's in great shape, but we are trying to determine the overall instrument quality, rarity, etc. Google Google Google! Called some specialty music stores. Cannot find anything! Not even anyone selling on eBay or other e-merchant sites. Any info will be helpful. Thanks, Bob

from Peter Hurd's website http://oboes.us/resources/makers.html#kholert. They are not particularly well regarded instruments, although there are good ones out there. A google search will reveal some information, but youj need to spread your net far and wide as the firm is defunct for over 50 years or so. Frm another page "V. Kohlert & Söhne (1840-1948 Graslitz, Czechoslovakia, 1948-1970s Kohlert & Co. Winnenden, Germany)"
