 What are short fingerings ?

On a previous thread that I started concerning the natural range (compass) of the Oboe , short fingerings were mentioned. What exactly are these. I'm guessing that perhaps they are the fingerings for top E and F natural without the RH fingers being used.

That is it in a nutshell - the minimum fingers being held down in the altissimo register to give any given note. Some reeds and instruments work better than others.

As opposed to the full fingerings where other fingers or keys are held down to help, resonate or tune certain notes.

Thanks for that Chris. I've always used those on the high E and F naturals and notice that the one for E is even included in Baines fingering chart for Oboe in his book "Woodwind Instruments and Their History" but not for the F. They work reasonably well for me even though they are slightly flat but are acceptable on short (quick) notes.
