 Playable reeds

Hi,

Just curious to know how many playable reeds do you have at a time on average? Would it be something like 1 - 3 good reeds, 1 - 6 OK reeds, and perhaps half a dozen of reeds that may be be only good for very short period of time?

Personally, I only play on a reed for about 6 hours over a few days, this forces me to make more. I usually retain the 2 previous reeds so I know they are good to go, so effectively have 3 reeds that I can readily play on. I will often keep in a separate case, any reef I felt was very good at the time, so that I possibly can resurrect that too. I generally have at least 12 blanks tied on and at various stages of completion too.

I play on all of my four oboes with different reads . I just know I have good reeds for three of my oboes and one I have to replace soon. I have three neary finished reeds so soon I will use four good reeds.

Hmm... i can never decide which of my reeds are best! So i have a case of rejected reeds (that i might try later)
A case of completely dead reeds... that i use in the car when driving to practise my embouchure.
A case of 'working' reeds. 3 MS and 3 M and 3 MH...

Not sure which are my best! at any one point...

I have 3 good reeds at any given time, and another 3-6 'in process'. As I am an incremental reed-maker, they rotate, one becoming a 'good reed' while another is 'retired'.

I like dense cane so any reed that lasts only a short time usually gets un-made and its staple recycled.
