I was browsing the interwebz and came across a photo of this Margaux 901 with a thumb plate and 3 keys on the back. What are these keys? Is one simply an alternate 3rd octave key?

Alternative touch piece for the third octave key. For most of the third octave notes, you need to hold down the thumbplate and the third octave key at the same time.

Rather than remaking the entire 3rd 8ve key, someone's fitted an extension to the existing 3rd 8ve key but with the touchpiece set to the right of the thumbplate.
The usual position of the 3rd 8ve touchpiece on thumbplate and dual system instruments is to the left of the thumbplate. See attachment.
