A repaired crack in a oboe
Author: Bron357

Hi all, just a general enquiry about how having a repaired crack ( repaired with the special glue) might affect the value of an oboe? It didn't go all the way through and the oboe still seals. Thoughts , advice much appreciated. Many thanks.

Provided it has been repaired well, it shouldn't cause any problems playing wise, but it will take the value down should you want to sell it compared to one that hasn't cracked.

Chances are it may even play better once it has cracked as the stress in the wood has been released - some have experienced their oboes (and clarinets) play more freely once they've cracked.

It's not the end of the world if it has cracked and can be repaired, so don't worry too much if it has. But do get it dealt with immediately.

The opinions I express are my own.
