I just discovered that the tenon on the upper joint of my Yamaha 441 is cracked! The crack extends from the end of the tenon down under the cork, shuck is also split. I don't see anything past the shoulder of the tenon. How bad is this? I would imagine it could be repaired by banding under the cork. Any advice?
Thanks.

Tenon cracks aren't a disaster and can be repaired by glueing and either as you said with a carbon fibre band under the cork, or having a metal tenon cap fitted.
They're not serious and are fairly common, so don't worry as it's a routine job to fix split tenons for most woodwind specialists. Clarinets suffer with split tenons more than oboes (especially the thin tenon on the lower joint) and once repaired, you'll have no problems with it.
Don't use any grease for the time being until you take it in to get fixed as cork grease will contaminate the crack and inhibit the glue bonding to the wood.
