Hi Everyone
it's been a while since I last left a comment on the oboe bboard, but I'm now back.
I'm recovering from a minor operation at home, and, having so much free time to fill, decided to set up a Youtube page of several of my recordings over the years with my band, the BBC SSO, in Glasgow.
I'm making no great claims for myself as a Cor Anglais player - there are many, many better players out there - I just hope you like the recordings, and that it may stimulate some interesting discussions.
Hope you're all well and enjoying the World of Oboe.

Kindest regards
James

Hope this link works. Below is a link to a Stefan Schilli recording.

He is playing Tobias Schneid's Vertical Horizon III for solo oboe. I have to say, it represents for me one of the finest solo recordings for oboe in the last 20 years. It's an avant garde work, I should warn you, but it's essentially a melodic piece. I bought the music, being inspired by Schilli's playing, and I must say, reading the music, while listening to him play, increases my respect for his playing exponentially.
I hope you enjoy it.
Regards
James

Here's a true rarity - Holliger's prize-winner's concert from the 1957 Geneva International oboe competition, when he was only 18 years old. It's not flawless, but it gives one an insight into the beginnings of the legend's musical journey. It's so odd hearing him play the dubious C minor version of Marcello's D minor oboe concerto, but I like it, nevertheless.

Also, one to watch is Ivan Podyomov, the new principal oboe of Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. He also gives an oboe class in Lucerne Musickhochschule.

Largo from Bach's D minor concerto

He's a classy, tasteful and not overly demonstrative player. See what you think.
