HI,
So I have been told that I will get the best out of my new Moennig AMG 150 if I use the Chiarugi 2+ and 5 47 mm oboe staples. I wanted to get a feel from the subject matter experts here on the use of these staples and ask how it effected the shaper tip selection. I have been using a Mack+ and or a Webber B shaper tip. I need to try some new shaper tips anyway. So give any feedback if you have it.
Kind Regards,
George

I think you're seriously overthinking this new oboe thing. You obviously tried it with some reeds and liked the instrument enough to buy it. Why do you feel like you need to switch staples and shapes? You need to spend more time making reeds with staples that you're familiar with to figure out the deficiencies of your current reeds and how you need to change your scrape for your new instrument first.
Just because someone else says "Oh, these staples work best with this oboe." Doesn't mean it will. They might scrape reeds differently. They might use a different shape. Most importantly, they might have an entirely different gouge.
My best suggestion is to make 100 reeds on your shape, your staples, your gouge and find what you dislike about your results. Then practice 100 hours on those 100 reeds to see if the reeds or the instrument is changing your playing for the better. (You'll probably know after 20 hours.) Then, change ONE variable and make another 100 reeds. Your oboe is already a huge variable you've changed. No point in changing more.
