One local orchestra here in Colorado lost a friend and 1st oboe player this spring.
They posted a link to the audition resources and you can download the PDF if interested.
Oddly, to me a t least, the Ravel Daphnis et Chloe Mvt 5 shows up. I've never seen that on a pro roster much less a semi-pro local audition.
So, time for old dog needs new tricks, I guess.
Anyway, the PDF download has the parts for many standard audition requirements.
Its worth taking a minute to download it.

I've played them all, but Daphnis is by far the most difficult thing I've ever played in my life. Only once, Thank God!
It IS a surprisingly tough list for a community orchestra, unless they actually play at the level the list implies. If so, it's gotta be fun t
o work with them.
I've downloaded the list to inflict on my students... Hee hee.

Well, I certainly know the secret of the fast lies in the slow.
2 months to prep, and unless I go back to IT consulting (another good chance of that) I will give it a shot.
If I do go back to IT consulting, I will make more in an hour than I do in a service..... always a tough choice.
But that has been the dilemma for 25 years for me.
I do loves me some oboe though.

Mr. Hubbard makes some good points, and his honesty about the difficulty of Daphnis is refreshing. Maybe, the conductor likes it and wants to program it. You would expect Le Tombeau, though, on any oboe audition. I guess that, if it is a paid position, no matter what the amount is, they can ask for anything! Regards.

I am finding that piece extremely difficult, so far.
A good challenge at this point in my life. I am keeping it slow for now trying to train muscle memory and mind memory. I know I must remain patient and not learn mistakes.
I have a few weeks to work it up and will give it my best shot.
Having to use my backup oboe while my primary is shipped out for repairs.
Both are Covey oboes, but have a very different feels to the keywork.
Anyway..... giving it a shot.
