I have taken over the instruction of a teenage girl in her fourth year of playing. Nice sound, good tuning, average reading, but quiet as a mouse and no confidence. Her previous teacher rarely played with or for her, and that just isn't me! Kids love duets and often learn matching in terms of tone/tuning/volume as a by product they are't aware of (learning by osmosis, if you must), so I have said we will play a few duets for fun.
I want to make some of her repertoire a bit more 'relevant' to her, and play some 'real life' duets. Stuff she could hear being played by pros if she listened to a recording. I tried to rack my brain for famous orchestral oboe duets, and came up with just the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra one (doable) and the Pictures 'Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks' (not doable for this level).
Can anyone think of any others, especially that may be downloadable on Petrucci? Preferably two oboes and not oboe/cor (although those suggestions might be valid down the track).
Thanks!
Rachel

Bartok Concerto for Orchestra and Britten's 'Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra' - more likely to be found in extract books and only the 1st oboe part.
Also the Bach Concerto for Oboe and Violin in either C minor or D minor - the 2nd movement doesn't go out of range for either player.

The opinions I express are my own.

How about "Entrance of the Queen of Sheba" by Handel? Also, much of Handel's Messiah (depending on the version you get) has occasional oboe duet measures.

Lots of baroque pieces for 2 oboes. Vivaldi's RV 535 is easy enough under the fingers. Pisendel's C-minor. Lots of Telemann trio sonatas (recorder and flute are generally playable). RV 81. 1st part of Bach BWV 23. So the possibilities are endless and some of these don't necessarily require the continuo, if it's just the 2 of you tinkering with sections.

1. Sibelius- 5th Symphony has several duet passages for oboes, including the extended staccato melody and the finale theme in octaves
2. Prokofiev- Classical Symphony also has some duets, not all of them finger-busters
3. Brahms- 2nd Symphony slow movement melody in octaves
4. Menotti- Amahl and the Night Visitors

Get hold of Anthony Camden's 3 CDs of Albinoni Oboe concertos on Naxos (cheap, good quality recordings). Many of them are double concertos (Celia Nicklin? on Ob. 2 - brilliant as well). Scores I assume on IMSLP.
That way she can listen to them, play along with them at home, and play with you during lessons.

Amahl is a wonderful idea, Andy!
And when you get to the oboe/EH stage, check out 'Shepherds of Provence' in the Vade Mecum.
Several Bach cantatas have oboe duet movements, as well as St Matthew Passion and the B minor Mass. Excerpted in Rothwell Bach studies volume.

Though not orchestral lit, the Ferling 48 Famous Studies Vol 1 and Vol 2 offer some great stuff for young and even advanced oboists.
Book 2 contains 10 duets plus the Beethovan Trio for 2 Ob and Ehorn.
And for one-on-one lessons with students of various skills were one of my favorites back in the day.
Hopefully, they are still available.
