Random OT Question Re: Prelude to act 3 of Tannhauser ...

From a friend of mine ...

Random Question.
Do you know of any orchestral percussion forums out there?

I'm performing Prelude to act 3 of Tannhauser, and trying to figure out why some
recordings use the snare drum instead of Tambourine. Tambourine is marked in the
score. I've asked around, and no one seems to know.

From our Principal Percussionist:

"I'm accustomed to hearing tambourine also but sometimes conductors like snare drum with no snares. As far as I know there might be an onstage snare drum part but only tambourine within the orchestra."

A PERCUSSION question - on the oboe list?

I think you've jinxed the list :)
