Once you start listening to great players like Marcel Ponseele play baroque oboe music on the original instruments, it's hard to go back! As Oboi says, it's an entirely different beast. The baroque oboe has less edge, is less piercing, and has a broader more dulcet tone. Listen to Marcel Ponseele's Easter Oratorio for example:
