So, i received my box set of Han de Vries radio recordings from Oboe Classics. PLEASE, get a copy if you can. At 9 cds and 2 dvds, it is a testament to the great Dutch way of oboe playing, not to mention, some of these interpretations are to me simply staples of the oboe recordings world. And all live unedited recordings!!!

There's nothing quite like an overwhelming response to one's efforts, is there!? So, here's one: when I heard de Vrie's recording of the Strauss Concerto, I felt that finally, here is a European oboist that is as good as the best, American and British oboists. Regards, Loree BF51

Now that is a brave generalization! He is of course one of the best Dutch oboists ever to have had an international career with concertos written for him by personalities such as Bruno Maderna. There are many many many super European oboists of course, but he is indeed very special!

Han de Vries is certainly one of the maters. He is one of very few who plays music with oboe.
Leon Goossens and Heinz Holliger always found ways to get into my soul.
