Has anyone tried these yet? What makes them different from say the Opera model?

In my opinion, the MUSA is closer to the idea of a Marigaux 901, softer, lighter.

Just tried their web-site and the MUSA pages are all 'under construction'.
Must be a new model, and I have not tried it.

Yeah they're website page apparently isn't up so I came on here to find out more about it.
I'm considering purchasing their oboes since they're so affordable and seem very reputable. Definitely want to try their Opera but I'm curious about the MUSA as well.

Sounds like I will be taking some oboe reeds to IDRS after all. Was only planing to take my ehorn for bocal searching...
I did play one of their english horns a couple weeks back from a friend during reh. break, but need more time with it.
Being a 30 year Loree ehorn player, it is very different, and what stood out immediately was the ease of response in the high range.

The Albrecht Mayer model is around $9000 (as quoted from the only seller in the US). http://www.innoledy.com/instruments/new.html
I will post my opinions on the oboes, however I will report mostly about English Horns. Since my main reason for going this year is to buy a new EH. I am very curious to try the Marigaux and Buffet horns.

Bryan,
One of my main reasons for going is to try ehorn bocals...
I will look for you.
It'll be nice to meet you.
And holy smokes, this stuff got expensive since I last attended as a student or teacher.
Should be great though, so much going on.

Another request while you're there, Bryan - report back whatever findings on the Ludwig Frank/Moennig bass oboe you can if they have them on display. I can't find any photos of it on both Ludwig Frank and Moennig's sites, but do know it's maple-bodied so should be pretty light.

Craig,
I will look for you as well. I love meeting all the people at the conference. Since you are looking for a new bocal I would gladdy lend my ears if you would like a listener.
Chris,
Ludwig Frank (and his partner Frank Meyer) will not be exhibiting at the conference. I met Ludwig Frank back in December and he said that the week of the IDRS conference is Moennig's big 25th(since they "reborn" the Moennig name) anniversary celebration. He felt it would be better for him to be in Markneukirchen rather than at the IDRS conference.
Tong Cui from Innoledy will be there displaying the Moennig instruments, but I only think he will only bring a few instruments. However I could be wrong!

When trying Bulgheroni English horns and oboes d'amore, be sure that you bring along a plethora of different bocals by different makers.
Bulgheroni makes first class instruments, though so far I have found the Bulgheroni bocals to be less than stellar...

heckelmaniac is right. i know because i play a custom bulgheroni cor. beautiful sound, doubtful intonation of the middle c's among others (especially during diminuendo), so many people have told me that the bocals are to be blamed. Indeed they don't look nor sound right but i got it through some wonderful events beautifully in the past few years. Absolutely no stiffness (like those associated with many Loree cors). Perfect if not of those issues. Definitely worth trying out.

Btw did anyone feel the need to change their reed setup on the fly in order to give these instruments a real chance? Or after you bought the instrument?

Hi OboeLover4Life and Chance,
OboeLovereLife-I am curious, were you able to trial a MUSA and find out what your thoughts were?
Chance–Since you have one, how would you describe it, and what have they done differently on this model. There isn't much information on the website, so it's hard to get the scoop :-) But, I am definitely interested.
Cheers,
Scott

Where did you purchase the Cocobolo MUSA ? Could you be more descriptive about its qualities ?
Inquiring minds want to know :>}
Thanks

Haven't tried Bulgheroni yet and, after speaking with my teacher, I'm a little unsure tbh.
But it's very possible he tried a lower model, and positive he didn't try MUSA so I'll still give em a chance.

The Bulgheroni website has been updated and now includes information about the MUSA oboe. These look like beautiful instruments!

Must be one of Yan's ideas! I saw that once on a Sound Alchemy oboe. I think this is fairly common nowadays. Also on Some other brands but I cannot recall which at the moment....

If the linkage is around the side and linked to the con bar, I've only ever seen that on one other oboe - a Chinese Lark oboe.

Chris,
The linkage is on the right side with an adjustment screw. They've been doing this on their Opera model for a few years now and carried it onto the MUSA too.
