As our board friend Chris P. has stated, the forked F on most oboes is a very "duff" note.

Does your oboe have an F resonance vent? (F res is located on the lower joint, right side, roughly beneath the r.h. pinky cluster. It is a vertical mechanism, as opposed to most every other key on the oboe. It opens and shuts with the "d" finger touch.)

If you have it, you might check to see how much it is opening when you press down the "d" touch. You could open it a little more (which means, loosen the screw nearest the F res pad cup) and see if that helps.

You will know when you have loosened it too much, because none of your low notes will play when the F res is too loose.

Susan
