I had an afternoon out at my local gardens yesterday (the Royal Horticultural Society gardens, Wisley, U.K, to be exact), and what should I happen to come across there but our old friend Arundo donax. I was very excited as I've never seen it before in its 'raw' state. They had obviously cut it back recently, so it got me thinking: if I were to ask them nicely for their cuttings, do you think I would have any chance at all of making halfway decent reeds from them? Bearing in mind that this plant is growing in south-east England, not the Mediterranean.
I just thought it might be nice to give it a go rather than their cuttings going into their compost bin! But I won't bother going to all that trouble if the reeds will be horrible at the end of it.
