What is this object in my clarinet case?

It looks like a white unlabelled stick of lip balm.

I began learning the clarinet around November. After I began to practice regularly, my lips chapped. I associated the two together, and I used lip balm after practicing for like a few weeks. I do not remember whether I left it in the case since then.

I had been practicing without noticing it. Then my house burned down, and I had to move. When I was sorting through my belongings, I noticed it in my case. I do not remember what it was.

Could it be anything else? Like something for the clarinet? Thanks.

Probably cork grease, what you smear on the corks so it's easier to assemble. If it's unlabelled it could be anything from actual lip balm, or some other petroleum based grease that might penetrate and ruin the glue of the cork... to a decent cork grease.

I'm really sorry to hear about your house. I'm glad you have your clarinet to cheer things up a bit.

About the stick in your case -

If it is unlabelled it would probably be best to put it in the bin.

You could buy a new stick of cork grease to grease the corks of your clarinet so that it is easy to fit it together and has a good air tight seal.

You could also buy new lip balm.

It would not be a good idea to use the unlabelled stick for either of these things because if it is cork grease it would be bad for your lips, and I think clarnibass is right that unknown stuff could cause trouble for the corks.

Good luck there.

Jennifer

I suspect this is trolling... wouldn't cork grease or lip balm have something written on it like "cork grease"... OR "lip balm"

Thanks for the responses! It truly is unlabelled.

I do not think I ever had unlabelled lip balm, and couldn't find any cork grease with my extra reeds and stuff. It is probably the cork grease that came with the clarinet.

Thanks for helping me figure it out! But yeah, with it being unlabelled, I should probably buy new cork grease just to be safe.
