 Clarinet On A Stand
Author: Zeldalaina

OK, I am sorta lazy sometimes getting the clarinet out of it's case, and putting it together. Is it in any way advisable to let the clarinet stay on a stand in a corner somewhere so it will not get knocked down, and if so, how many days, if any, can it stand there?

I wouldn't do it, but I admit there have been times I would like to give my clarinet a "time out" in the corner.

It's not advisable at all - you'll end up with the tenon corks compressing and the water collecting in the sockets which can make the joints bind together and then they'll end up losse and will need replacing, not to mention dust will collect in the mechanism and you do run the risk of it being knocked over no matter how safely out of harm's way you may think it is.

So always dry your clarinet out well after use, use a pullthrough for the bore and a piece of paper towel to dry the sockets, then separate all the joints, lightly grease the tenon corks and put it back in its case out of harm's way.

It's not going to KILL it.

Take your clarinet apart and swab out especially the sockets after each use, and you can put it back together and on a stand.

But at that rate, since you should take it apart and swab out the sockets anyway, may as well put it in a case.

In either case, the corks will compress and need replacing sooner.

Wanna save time? Metal clarinet! Only need to put on a mouthpiece!
