Last night was the orchestra's season opening concert. I don't know how many of you in the States get NY's PBS station, WNET, or picked up its feed of the event on your local PBS station elsewhere.
In addition to a great all around performance (it's like music's version of watching Major League Baseball's All-Star Game) Deborah Voight's vocal talents proved superb, as the featured soloist, on difficult repertoire, while Mark Nuccio and Ricardo Morales alternated as clarinet principal, with strong performances by each of them.

While I did not see Pascual Martinez Forteza, Alucia Scalzo and Amy Zoloto more than amply complimented the clarinet section, with Ms. Zoloto having some challenging solo Bass Clarinet sections at times.
The Empire State Building had its NY Philharmonic red reflectors on its night lights last evening to celebrate. After the 10th anniversary of 9/11, it was a good time to be a NYer and an American.
