Last night was the orchestra's season opening concert. I don't know how many of you in the States get NY's PBS station, WNET, or picked up its feed of the event on your local PBS station elsewhere.
In addition to a great all around performance (it's like music's version of watching Major League Baseball's All-Star Game) Deborah Voight's vocal talents proved superb, as the featured soloist, on difficult repertoire, while Mark Nuccio and Ricardo Morales alternated as clarinet principal, with strong performances by each of them.

While I did not see Pascual Martinez Forteza, Alucia Scalzo and Amy Zoloto more than amply complimented the clarinet section, with Ms. Zoloto having some challenging solo Bass Clarinet sections at times.
The Empire State Building had its NY Philharmonic red reflectors on its night lights last evening to celebrate. After the 10th anniversary of 9/11, it was a good time to be a NYer and an American.

I did watch part of it, I noticed a quick shot of all the clarinet section at times. It was nice to see Ricardo in his new to be seat and to see the Backun stuff in NY. I watched a late edition and turned it off shortly after intermission, I had a morning rehears and it was already 12:30 AM ESP eddiesclarinet.com

David, what did the Times say about her? I heard her in the Barber, sounded OK. ESP

David -
Oh boy, playing clarinet has warped my mind. The reviewer criticized the singer, but I thought you meant that he didn't like the BC player.
