Helol - - Did any of you get to the Mannes clarinet day?
How was it? How were the teachers?
How were the students?
Thanks.

I stayed 'til the lunch break.
Mark Nuccio gave a fine master class - I am impressed by the students' courage in exposing themselves in front of a large (60 people) audience of fellow clarinetists (including numerous pros). Nuccio had a lot of solid advice.
I was hoping for more vendors - Mark from Weiners was there with a lot of reeds, mouthpieces, etc., as well as buffet R13s to sample (and one Buffet bass clarinet). A few other vendors with less to play with.
Best of all Tomoji (lastname?), the former NYC WW and BW repairman, was there offering free clarinet adjustments. He did a nice job with my clarinet and will probably get more business at his new repair studio on 28th Street

i went to Mark's class and the recital.
Each of the performers is unique and stunning in his own way. Mark is such a refined player-beautiful sound, impeccable rhythm, fingers from the devil, i could go on. He really dazzled us with Kovacs' Homage to Strauss and a deadly Piazzola etude.
Charlie is always a jaw dropper with his double tonguing and formidable technique. He transcribed a highly unpopular (hopefully not for long) Mendelssohn Violin Sonata. He also performed his own piece (In Memoriam/Spirals) that I found effective and very moving. He wrote it (originally) for his father but has since dedicated it to anyone who has suffered tragedy.
David Krakauer-what can I say. He's always a show stopper! He played the Messiaen very evocatively and then did a Klezmer set with a bassist and an accordionist. All I can say is WOW. Such joy and (seemingly) reckless abandon. He's extraordinary.
I hope they do this every year.
anybody else go?
Meighan
