I have heard that this instrument is made in Germany, while the E13 is made in France. Is this true? What consequences would the place of origin have on the clarinet's performance? What, if any, are the significant differences between them? Are they pitched differently?z

I have been playing one for about two years now--marking my return to the ranks--and love it. The horn ships (at least, mine did) with a 64.5 mm barrel. Replaced it with a 66 mm chadash barrel and it is in tune with A 440. One problematic note: the low E is high and I have to relax the embouchure to nail that one. At the current price bid, I would say it is an outstanding buy. Chuck

The International is made is Germany and is considered an intermediate, step-up instrument. They are usually pretty nice instruments, but you may need more of an ear for intonation than with the R-13.
Brook Mays Music sells the International all the time. You might check their prices.

They are made by Schreiber as are B12's, E11's and E13's. They are all part of the Boosey group. Schreiber and Julius Keilwerth are in the same factory I think it is in Nauheim Germany. It seems within the Boosey group that any Boehm clarinet is a Buffet and any German System is Schreiber. Likewise any German Bassoon is Schreiber and and French Bassoon Buffet. It is just a branding exercise. The Keilwerth ST90 saxophones are most definitely not made by Keilwerth and the EX's probably aren't. There are some old Schreiber Boehm's out there from probably as late as the 1980's and they are fairly similar to the E11. There are some quality issues with Schreiber gear and although they make some premium clarinets and bassoons the lower end of their production is pretty average. I fix an extraordinary number of 5016 bassoons that are not set up or pre-serviced, even at a price of around AUD$10 000.
