 C# screw stuck
Author: susannah

i need to loosen off the screw holding on the F#/C# key, but i can't move it at all. i've been trying with a little screw-driver and had no problem with all the other keys. Does anyone have any ideas how to make it easier to undo?

Thanks

Take it to a qualified repair person.

If it's something really simple, they often charge very little or nothing at all for something like this. Especially if you develop a good rapport with the tech.

Susanna -
Techs have tools, like bigger handled screwdrivers(more leverage), just to deal with stubborn screws that will cause little or no damage to the slot. If you keep picking at it you're likely to make it worse. If the tech gets it undone for you you'll no problem next time you need to make that adjustment :)
As Peter advises, it's probably such a minor fix there'll be little or no charge.

Put ONE drop of penetrating oil right on the screwhead then tap around the casing so the oil will penetrate into the threads. Wait about five minutes and try to remove the screw.

Penetrating Oil: WD-40 or Liquid Wrench will do.

Best wishes,
AL

susannah,
If you are the same sussanah who lives in canberra, take it to Dirk who lives out past Belconnen, he will be able to fix it for you. If you are going to Sydney soon, you could also try Dianne Gardener or Steve Giordano, both of whom your new teacher recommends.
See you soon,
Andy
