This is not a thought provoking or otherwise stimulating question but: I'm making new reed pads and need to know the width and length of a bass clarinet reed?
Thanks - lazed and recovering from the flu

Here is a suggested measurement of a finished bass clairnet reed:
Length: 80 mm
Length of vamp: 38-41 mm
Width at tip: 17 - 18 mm
Width at heel: 15 mm
Thickness at shoulder: 3.25 - 3.5 mm

Dear Bob,
My jargon - I am now selling a now selling a line of sandstone reed holders that I call pads that suck moisture out of reeds from below to control reed warpage problems.

From the "Habdbook for Making and Adjusting Single Reeds"
by Kalman Opperman; Revised Edition 2002; M. Baron Co, Inc.
Appendix II p.39 Bb Bass Clarinet
Overall Length 80mm
Width at Tip 18.2mm
Width at Heel 15mm
Thickness at Shoulder 3.25mm
Length of Vamp 41mm
Not much difference from Tom's figures but I thought another source might be helpful.
