I need you guys to clear up something for me if you don't mind. I feel I really should know this but its embarrasing to even ask, but...
i know the clarinet is divided into registers. i just need to get the terms chalumeau, clarion, and altissimo cleared. (and any other registe names if there are any).
thanks.

I've never known this either, but in the few months I've hung around here I think I've figured it out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong:
- Chalumeau is low E up to throat Bb.
- Clarion is middle B up to C two lines above staff.
- Altissimo is high C# up to that ultra-high C I've never been able to play a day in my life.
And there are only 2 dumb questions here:
- There are no dumb questions.
- Should I oil my Steuben?

ALOMARvelous12...
This should help you:
Chalumeau: E3 to F4
Throat tones: F#4 to Bb4
Clarion: B4 to C6
Lower Altissimo: C#6 to G6
Upper Altissimo: G#6 to G7 (the notes C#7 to G7 are very rarely used) ...GBK

The throat tones are not a separate register. They are a subset of the chalumeau register.
Some notes depending on how they are fingered can be played in more than one register. A good example is the C# that is two ledger lines above the staff. If you play it thumb + register key + two side keys, it is in the clarion register. If you play it as thumb + register key + left hand fingers 2&3 + right hand fingers 1&2, then it is in the altissimo register.
For the theoretically minded:
Chalumeau (including the throat tones) - played as the 1st harmonic (i.e. fundamental tone)
Clarion - played as the 3rd harmonic
Altissimo - played as 5th, 7th, etc harmonics
The even number harmonics, although present in the sound, can't be directly accessed on the clarinet due to the fact that it acts acoustically like a pipe closed on one end.
