hi i play on a pomarico ruby M and i was having a little trouble finding a compatible reed. any advice? i've been using vandoren 3's but they don't seem to be working well. thanks in advance

I do not use Vandoren reeds these 5 years.
However, I remember someone posted that Vandoren changed tip shape design as of March 2001.

Hiroshi...Good observation / good suggestion.
Ever since Vandoren went to the "flatter" tip profile to "conform to the tip shape of their mouthpieces" (<b>their</b> explanation - I have my own theory as to why it was changed), it is now very important to see that the tip shape matches your individual mouthpiece.
Personally, I said good-bye to Vandoren reeds more than a year ago.
Gonzalez FOF have yielded higher quality, consistant reeds, with a lot less "tweaking' being needed...GBK

Where do you get your Gonzalez reeds?
I've wanted to try them, but haven't seen them advertised anywhere, of course, I haven't really been looking for them either.
Glotin reeds have been good for me. Almost every single one out of every box has been a playable reed, but I've heard all kinds of good things about the Gonzalez as well.
How do their strengths work, as compared to something we all pretty well know, say like Vandoren Trads?
I tried the Zondas and didn't like them at all. Every single one out of the box I bought had to be adjusted and smoothed out because they were rough, but not nearly as bad as a box of La Voz I had some years ago that had my bottom lip bleeding within 15 minutes after starting to play.

Peter...I get my Gonzalez reeds from Phil Shapiro at Davie Cane. They are a woodwind.org sponsor so just click on their link on the sponsor portion of this site.
Phil Shapiro, as many know, is a great guy and very helpful. His toll free number is on his web site. Definitely worth a call.
(by the way - "The Doctor" (L. Omar Henderson) also sells Gonzalez reeds as well as other superb products)
The strength of the Gonzalez FOF reeds are pretty close to V12's.
Some players feel that you need to go 1/4 strength higher in the Gonzalez to match the equivalent V12.
Thus, a Vandoren V12 3 1/2 would equal a Gonzalez 3 3/4.
I have written very extensively on my impressions of Gonzalez reeds. A search under my initials and Gonzalez will yield lots to read.

Go to eBay.com and type in pomarico or pomarico mouthpiece. You may see some of the bid prices on other pomaricos (if any are up for bid).
