My wife decided to pick up the clarinet again. She ended up getting a Evette/Sponsored by Buffet/Paris France model (K8171) from the local music shop. I have read through the thread, after doing some searching, and have read varying impressions of these instruments. We have a return period here and I was wondering if anyone could provide any info/pros/cons/personal experiences with this instrument. She originally liked the tone, then didn't, but switched to a harder reed and the sound quality improved. I think she sounds fine with it, but her ear is better than mine. I purchased a new vandoran mouth piece and ligature and she is currently using a vandoran #3 reed. She was a very good player in High School and I would like this to be a good experience for her and not a frustrating one. Any comments would be greatly appreciated on whether to keep this one or take it back for a different type (recommendations).
Thanks again,
Mike

If you go into SEARCH and type in EVETTE, EVETTE SCHAFFER, EVETTE SPONSORED BY BUFFET, you will find a slew (no, not Seattle) of info. There are many postings/replies relating to the comparitive models, s/n ranges, yrs of mfg, undercutting of tone holes (U and L joints), keywork, etc.
Hope this will help you and ENJOY reading !!

ps..on a personal note, aside from my many r13's, I've had and have several models of the EVETTE line. Although there are/may be sleepers within a given model designation, I've found the insights provided in the aforementioned postings/replies to be accurate. I have a ESMM that, this past summer at the Oklahoma Symposium, astounded Francois Klock of Buffet......so much so that in later phone converstations, he inquired if I still had it.
