ok well i havent wrote for a while so i have a couple questions...
one: is double toungeing possiable on a clarinet and if so how or what do you do, i try and it fails misserably...
two: Bending a ligature is simple but i still dont understand how to do it...i guess it's just taking that prat of the ligature that should be on the reed off so only the bars touch...is that right (i have a bonade...
three: what are some cool tricks that you can do on a clarinet to kinda show off (i'm 15 and i like to do so) like sliding or slap tounging (which i still dont understand) or stuff like that it would be a help if ya did and thanks from me 2 you

I only know the answer to your first question and thats to tounge saying tee-kee,ta-ka,to-ko, but on clarinet tee-kee works best. Try practicind this just by sitting around and saying it over and over as fast as you can. Better yet hiss it. Then try it by playing a note and it works beeter on high notes than low.

eBay is an auction. You don't "buy" a clarinet off eBay. You win an auction by a private individual. As such there are usually no warranties and no return privileges. Yes, you can get some good buys but you really need to know what you are doing and be prepared to pay for an overhaul no mattter what the seller says.
WW&BW is, on the other hand, a regular instrument dealer. New instruments come with warranties and you can get them on a trial basis and return them if not satisfied. I think they also have a minimal warranty on their used instruments.

TWO; Your concept is correct--use of needle nose pliers will make the proceedure easiest. My recommendation is to invest in a VanDoren Optimum, use the parallel rail insert and never worry about "bending" again.

I really can't answer any of your questions, but I have to say I do not feel so alone... I'm a 16 year old who spends there time reading through the things on this board in hopes of gaining knowledge... Nice to know I'm not the only one! As for showing off, I do plenty of that. (though it usually fails miserably.) Try learning popular songs... I have the Flintstones theme and part of "Across the Stars" (love theme from Star Wars) memorized. I can also pick up bits of other marching band's show music with ease, and i get lots of laughs for that.

Here's my fave party trick:
Take off your mouthpiece. Finger Bottom E (All holes closed).
Then, put your mouth against your barrell, just like a tuba player would do on his mouthpiece, and BUZZ! It makes a sound like a moo-ing cow! Very useful...
Or, take off the barrel, still fingering low E, and buzz like a trumpet player - and it will sound like a trumpet! IT's also very loud! Great for getting the band's attention when you're up on the podium and wanna get tuning started!

i dont know what to say...i already got a bonade but is the vandoren all it's cracked up to be? and that low E thing sounds great and i'll try it when i want to get a kick, and if you have msn messenger i could use all the help so if ya want add yo_dude24@hotmail.com to your list and...umm...oh yah...double tounging sounds simple lets see if it is simple...allright thanks for the help people

Only buzzing on low E? I can play entire songs buzzing into the barrel! (Seriously, I can, much to the chagrin of those around me . . .) ;-D I do sound decent on trombone and baritone, however, which could explain some of this phenomenon.

#3: Try bending notes for fun. Use a combination of loosening up your jaw a lot, flattening out your tongue in the back, dropping your throat in the back, and moving your lip around on the reed a little. Eventually you'll find something that works! High notes are easier to bend than low ones.
