Repair Tech in San Jose, CA
Author: Roger W M

Hi,
Does anyone have recent information on good clarinet repair technicians in the San Jose, CA area?
My search results showed a post from 1999, so I'm checking for most recent information.
Thanks,
Roger

Are you looking for professional-level repair techs? If so, then I don't think there are any. Clark Fobes no longer does repairs (at least that's what he tells me), and House of Woodwinds has closed their shop in Oakland. If you're looking for some general repairs on a student-level horn, then Best Music Co. in downtown Oakland can do a decent job for you. However, if you're looking for pro-level work, then the closest that I know of is RDG in Hollywood. A friend just got his horns back from RDG (John Peterson was the repair tech.) and he loves the work that was done. I'm getting ready to send mine down there next month.

Hope this info helps,
Mitch King

Roger,

One of the NAPBIRT repair techs that frequents the repair BB quite often is Bill Sveglini of Bills ABC Music in San Bruno. I can tell by his postings he knows his trade. You might get a reference or two from him if in doubt.

Looking at my CA map it seems like San Bruno isn't that far of a drive from San Jose.

If you're up to a drive over to Sacramento, Roger, you might drop in to visit Tim at Tim's Band Instrument Rapair. Tim, with well over forty years experience, is the technicians' technician of northern CA. Northridge Music has a very large shop. Ask for Scott or Chris, both NAPBIRT techs. Scott is the regional NAPBIRT director of central CA.

There is a guy in Watsonville who picks up instruments once a week at a shop in San Jose, or you can drive down there, and there is also a man in Sunnyvale that I know of who does good work too. Clark Fobes in SF no longer does repair work. If you want any of their contact info, please email me.
