Hi people, a new member of these message boards over here. I'm a high school freshman and have been playing clarinet for several years. I just thought that i'd like to say that you'll probably be hearing more of me as we go on.

well, my hs orchestra just performed haydn's 94th symphony this thursday night. haydn didnt write anything parts for clarinet, so i played the bassoon part transposed to fit in the clarinet's range. u could actually hear our performance at geocities.com/alomarvelous12/haydn.mp3

Hadyn's 94th Symphony? Bassoon parts for clarinet? Sounds like you didn't have the hardest challenge!

Welcome aboard! I'm sure you'll fit right in!

As a bassoonist, as well as sax and clarinet, I am alarmed! Haydn wrote the parts for bassoon not clarinet!

And, of course, Mark said he's alarmed! Doubling the bassoon with clarinet is not a "normal" thing to do!

Some orchestras are desperate and use what they can to fill in the parts. Our community orchestra used alto saxes to play cello, bassoon and English Horn parts and also a trombone to play the cello part. One night in rehearsal I played the French horn part on A clarinet. Fortunately no audience ever had to listen to this instrumentation. Unfortunately our orchestra disbanded(disorchestred) due to lack of cello, viola and French horn players.
