Does anyone have any professional opinions/comments/observations/ experiences on this make of Bb clarinet?
I got mine in '64. It has held up well, and still sounds good to me. Clarinets seem to require a lot less maintenance than saxophones.
thanks.

I've overhauled a few student-model plastic or hard-rubber Schreiber clarinets (same as the student Buffet/Evette-Schaeffer stencil models made by Schreiber) and personally I didn't like much about them. Their tone, intonation, and keywork seemed no better than mediocre to me.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You could easily spend another thousand dollars (US) before you get appreciably improvement from another instrument.
Keep playing good reeds, get the best fit for your mouthpiece and practice - you'll do well.

You shoulod be aware that Schreiber modernized their fabrication quite considerably in the last years. Also, they always made a range of clarinets for beginners to professional. So, what you got 40 years ago is not what you will get today.

After meeting Mr. Schreiber at a bassoon trade show about 10 years ago, he said that he really was a clarinetist and did not play the bassoon. He was a very nice man with a great sense of humor. This doesn't answer your comment, of course.
