My friend told me that he has heard that Gigliotti is now making clarinet reeds. Is this true? Did anybody try them?

Are the gigliotti reeds best suited to his mouthpieces? His mouthpieces seem to fit the new style Vandoren V12 tip and have a different curve (I think less of a curve) than other mouthpieces it seems.

I have tried Gigliotti reeds recently, and they were excellent. If you play a Gigliotti mouthpiece, I suggest you try Gigliotti Plus Reeds 3.5 or 4. It's a new product, so not too many stores will carry them now. If you go to their website, they have a list of merchants which sell their products online.

Thanks Zane. I think I will give them a shot. Anyone know how the thickness compares with other reeds? Are they plus sorta equivalent to V12 thickness? Thanks. Hopefully I'll hear ONE more thing before the thread dies . . .

Gigliotti has two types of reeds - Advantage and Plus. Compared to Vandoren, Advantage is an equivalent to Vandoren Traditional, and Plus is equivalent to V12. They are not exactly the same, but close. So far I was extrremely satisfied with Gigliotti Plus 3.5. Since it's a new product, you can expect better quality right now -- all manufacturers tend to pay more attention to quality control when they introduce a new item, and later on the quality goes downhill. That happened to Vandoren V12's.

Gonzalez FOFs work just fine on my Gigliotti mouthpiece--probably no need for a "special" reed to go with the mpc. What doesn't work so fine with the mpc, however, is some ligatures, which are too small for my Gig.

Marge -- If you use Gigliotti mpc, why don't you try Gig ligature as well? I'm sure it fits perfectly.

I had the gigliotti mp and ligature. The ligature goes fine with it. And it works well too. I just don't like that it's plastic. I have had mine for a short time and already see the wear and tear on the bars on the inside. Maybe I overtighten . . .
I'm gonna try some other ligs.
