 Ligature for "Bari Star" Reeds
Author: Bob Arney

This is not a pro or con topic so don't waste web space. I bought three Bari Star reeds (soft-medium-hard) to evaluate on my Bass. Problem. The blanks are so thick wih a upperside bevel cut that they seem to "distort" my normal ligatures [Rovner Eddie Daniels, Peter Spriggs Floating Springs]. Neither are able to grip the reed so that it will lie flat, center table. One side or the other of the ligature is either hiked up or the pressure plate rides crooked, off to one side of the bevel.Am I back to shoe-strings? Advice from Bari users only suggested as others won't have encountered this situation. Thanks, I have also posted this on the Bass.

Does a "standard" (old style) 2 screw ligature not work ? I went back to this for security of reed position when trying Legere for my bass (great success)!!

Bob, I use those reeds also and I have great success with the old standard Rovner lig. I also tried the Eddie Daniels and it did not work.

the rovner lig is the only way to go with these reeds.they also play better using a rovner.i used this setup for many years until the quality of the bari reeds dropped way off

What kind of mouthpiece and its cut are you using them on? Get back and let us know what you ended up with as I'm eyeballing these reeds for my bass. Sure wish they had some for a contra.

(I don't know the cut on any of these and don't know how to tell having no idea of how to measure)
Kinds of mouthpiece(s):
1. Walter Grabner CXBB
2. Two older "refaces" by Dave Spiegelthal, (a) marked #119 and (b) a really wide open lay marked "Jazz"
