OT: Sprinkler system drenches Philly Orchestra

Hope you don't mind the slightly off-topic nature here. I heard about this on NPR while coming to work this morning.

Boy, you think getting your Buffet wet is bad, try a Steinway grand.

And we thought the only musicians that got wet were in marching bands. This was in a year old building, the Kimmel Center. To the credit of the orchestra and even more to the maintance staff, the concert did go on that evening.

They should have planned for this. Spring showers are not unusual and rarely predictable.

The article seemed to think the whole affair was amusing ---- personally I see nothing funny about the destruction of a $75,000 Steinway piano.

Eschenbach seemed amused. The article just quoted him. The rest of the article was straight, other than the headline.

How awful. From musicain to musician I can't imagine what would happen if my sister's harp were to undergo this. She's a harpist, Im a clarinet/wooden recorderist and mom is a guitarist. EEK!
