 Breathing solutions

Well, I went out and bought some harder reeds (Vandoren 3). They do provide a bit more resistance, but I was slightly surprised to find them easy to play on. My mouthpiece (unknown brand, replacement after I broke the original that came with the clarinet) is relatively closed at the end. I didn't know about the neccessity to match reeds to mouthpiece profiles. I may step up to a 3 1/2 after a few weeks.

The "stacking" has been alleviated by having to blow harder, although it's still there to a degree. I can control it by reducing the amount of air I breath in, but this doesn't really feel natural. Perhaps it might given enough time and practice.

Dave -

There's a lot to say about breathing. Read my postings at:

http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=59103&t=58998. Be sure to follow the links to the material on Arnold Jacobs.

Best regards.
