Hello Gang,
I am working on the Saint Saens Clarinet Concerto. Any recommendations of who I should be listening to perform it? Man, the slow movement looks easy, but as they say, looks can be deceiving. Takes a lot of air, and even more control.

The Saint-Saens Op. 167 is a Sonata.
He did write 5 piano concerti, 3 violin concerti, and 2 cello concerti.
Unfortunately (for us) none for clarinet...GBK

Two recordings of the Saint-Saens which will give you different perspectives are:
Harold Wright - Boston Records #BR 1023 CD
Paul Meyer - "French Clarinet Art" - Denon #81757 9282 2
Also, Karl Leister has a good rendition which many prefer.
If you are a fan of Richard Stoltzman's highly personal style of playing, his recording of the Saint-Saens is quite excellent...GBK

To the otherwise excellent suggestions from GBK, I would like to add a new one from two very promising young artists: French Alexandre Tharaud on piano, and Belgian Ronald van Speadonck on the clarinet. It is from a CD dedicated to French music where Poulenc sonata, Debussy Rhapsodie and other french clarinet music beauties are to be found. It is edited by France based Harmonia Mundi
Stéphane.

Not too crazy here about the Moisan recording.
I got used to the thin sound, but the leaps and connections between registers were not even and too many notes stuck out within phrases where they should have been more even.
There were also intonation problems that accumulated to a point of being bothersome.
Musically, it didn't seem to be lyrical where it should be (1st mvt.) or light in places where it should (2nd mvt.).
